The U.S. Congress recently passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to assist business owners with whatever needs they have right now. Part of the CARES Act is the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and it authorizes up to $349 billion in forgivable loans to small businesses to pay their employees, mortgage interest, rent and utilities during this crisis.
 
If your U.S. business needs financial assistance, small businesses and sole proprietorships can start applying for these loans this Friday, April 3, 2020. Starting April 10, 2020, independent contractors and self-employed individuals can apply. Due to the funding cap, it is recommended businesses affected by COVID-19 apply quickly.

For our Canadian members, the Government of Canada has put several immediate and significant measures in place for employees and businesses. We will follow up with more information once the details on the wage subsidy are finished.
